Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were left heartbroken after getting outplayed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) in Chennai on Sunday, missing out on the chance to add to their lone title won in 2016.
It wasn’t just Pat Cummins and his teammates as well as their fans who were left gloomy-faced following their eight-wicket thrashing at the hands of Shreyas Iyer’s men at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
‘Orange Army’ owner Kavya Maran too was emotional and struggled to hold tears after the keenly-anticipated final ended earlier than expected as a result of the Knight Riders’ clinical all-round performance.

Andre Russell (3/19) and Mitchell Starc (2/14) led the way for the Knight Riders after Sunrisers captain Cummins opted to bat, with the 2016 champions losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually getting bowled out for a paltry 113 — the lowest total in an IPL final ever.

The Knight Riders, in reply, lost the wicket of Sunil Narine in the second over of the chase but were quickly back on top thanks to a fiery second-wicket partnership between opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39) and Venkatesh Iyer (52 not out) that was worth 91.
Iyer collected the winning run shortly after bringing up his half-century in 24 balls as Kolkata reached home in a canter with eight wickets and nearly 10 overs to spare.
