Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan feels legendary pacer James Anderson could end up playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should he get picked at the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction.
In July this year, Anderson, 42, retired from international cricket after he played his last Test against West Indies at Lord’s. He finished with four wickets from the two innings in his final Test. Anderson ended his Test career with 704 wickets from 188 matches.
Now that he has moved on from international cricket, Anderson is hoping to grab an IPL deal, and has entered the IPL 2025 auction pool at a base price of Rs 1.25 crore. Notably, Anderson has never played in the IPL till date. CSK, the five-time champions, retained MS Dhoni (Uncapped player), along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana and Shivam Dube. CSK spent Rs 65 crore on the retentions of these players and will head to the auction with a remaining purse of Rs 55 crore.
“You mention James Anderson, I would not be surprised if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai Super Kings. You heard it here first. They are a team that like someone who can swing it in the first few overs. They have always had a swinger, whether it is Shardul Thakur or someone else. It would not surprise me if Jimmy Anderson ends up at Chennai,” opined Vaughan on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.
The Lancashire-born pacer had recently told Sky Sports in an interview that he wished to take part in the IPL and that he still had “more to offer”. “That’s the whole point of going in the (IPL) auction, I think, I want to play cricket again,” he had said.

Anderson believed that he is in a good place and said that he wants to have an opportunity to “play somewhere”.
“So, however long down the line that might be, in whatever capacity that might be I’m not sure yet. But I’m really keen to play. I feel really fit, I’ve been bowling still, ticking over, so I feel like I’m in a good place and I’d love to have an opportunity to play somewhere,” he stated.
Anderson, though, is yet to feature in any of the top T20 leagues across the world. He has played just 19 T20Is for England, taking 18 wickets and last played a match in the shortest format for Lancashire in 2014. The IPL 2025 mega auction is scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 24 and 25 November.
