While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had set the price for top retention at Rs 18 crore, it also gave the freedom to the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to complete their own negotiations and set their own prices. As a result, three players have been retained for more than Rs 18 crore each, while seven players were retained for Rs 18 crore each.
The next highest slot was Rs 16.5 crore which will be paid to two Indian players.

The deadline for IPL retentions ended on Thursday evening (31 October) with South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen emerging as the most expensive retention as Sunrisers Hyderabad dished out Rs 23 crore to hold onto the hard-hitting batter. Klaasen is the most expensive retention of all time in IPL as he broke Virat Kohli’s record, who was retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for Rs 17 crore.

Mumbai Indians (MI) retained players: Jasprit Bumrah (Rs 18 crore) Hardik Pandya (c) (Rs 16.35 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 16.35 crore), Rohit Sharma (Rs 16.3 crore), Tilak Varma (Rs 8 crore).
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained players: Ruturaj Gaikwad (Rs 18 crore, Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 18 crore), Matheesha Pathirana (Rs 13 crore), Shivam Dube (Rs 12 crore) and MS Dhoni (Rs 4 crore).
