In a welcome move for those with an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract, the BCCI on Saturday announced an additional match fee of Rs 7.5 lakh per game per player starting from the 2025 season. A player thus could end up earning more than a crore rupees upon playing all league matches in a season.
The decision was announced Jay Shah on X on Saturday evening, with the BCCI secretary adding that each franchise would allocate an additional Rs 12.60 crore as match fees for a season.
Shah, who had recently been elected to the post of ICC chairman, added that the match fees will be in addition to the amount mentioned in a player’s contract.
“In a historic move to celebrate consistency and champion outstanding performances in the #IPL, we are thrilled to introduce a match fee of INR 7.5 lakhs per game for our cricketers! A cricketer playing all league matches in a season will get Rs. 1.05 crores in addition to his contracted amount.

The move to announce additional match fees for players could be the board’s way of ensuring players, especially overseas recruits, keep themselves available for an entire season and not pull out early on or midway through the season, unless due to injury.
Sudden withdrawals by foreign players was among the points raised during a meeting between the BCCI and the owners/representatives of all 10 teams at the board’s Mumbai headquarters in July.
The BCCI was also expected to announce player retention rules for this year’s mega auction over the weekend. The board, however, is yet to make an announcement on the same, though a report claimed they will be allowing a Right to Match (RTM) card in addition to five retentions.
The IPL Governing Council's meeting to finalise the player retention rules was to take place around the same time as the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on Sunday.
