The first phase of IPL 2024 schedule will be announced today (22 February) evening. As per reports, fixtures for only the first two weeks is likely to be announced on Thursday with the rest to follow in two parts.
IPL 2024, as has been revealed by chairman Arun Dhumal , is slated to begin on 22 March and conclude on 26 May. Just like 2023 edition, 74 matches will be played in the IPL this year but instead of 60 days, 67 days have been earmarked this time around. BCCI have conditioned one more week to the schedule taking into account the Lok Sabha elections that are expected for April or May.
IPL Governing Council is in discussion and waiting for necessary approvals from the Home Ministry and the Election Commission of India. Remainder of the fixtures will be announced after polling schedule becomes clear.
As per Cricbuzz , the league will get underway in Chennai with defending champions Chennai Super Kings playing host.
Kasi Viswanathan, CSK’s CEO, also said that the IPL has planned an inaugural ceremony before the match. It is not yet clear whether the league will stick to tradition of first fixture being a repeat of previous season’s final (CSK vs Gujarat Titans).
Similar approach was followed in 2019 during the last General Elections with the fixtures announced in two parts. Similar to the last time, the cash-rich league will be played entirely in India - doing away with overseas editions fully or partially (in 2009 and 2014).
