The schedule for the upcoming Indian Premier League (2024) could be announced in different phases, reported News18 CricketNext on Monday. The schedule for IPL 2024, which is excepted to start in late March, has still not been revealed due to logistical challenges as it is set to clash with General Elections.

The schedule for the first phase, however, could be out soon.

“We have been discussing internally and have more or less figured out the schedule but a final announcement is likely to happen the moment we get clarity and necessary clearances from the Home Ministry and Election Commission of India on the polling schedule,” a source told CricketNext.

The BCCI has no plans to shift the IPL out of the country due to the General Elections and like in 2019 where a similar scenario took place, schedule will be released in phases.

“The schedule will be announced in phases. Like it happened in 2019. For the first few games of each team, we will release the schedule soon and then we get more clarity on polling schedule and other important dates, we will announce the remainder,” the source added.

The report added that the IPL 2024 is expected to start towards the end of March and the stakeholders including the BCI, IPL Governing Council and the franchises have already held discussions regarding the schedule.

Indian players who are part of the Test series against England are expected to get a little over a week’s rest before IPL starts. The five-match India-England Test series ends on 11 March.
