The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is underway. Before the season could even begin, few players were forced to pull out of the cash-rich league due to reasons varying from injury and personal reasons.
Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna were early into this list due to injuries. We now take a look at all players who have been ruled out of IPL 2024 and their replacements (if any):
Mohammed Shami (Gujarat Titans): Mohammed Shami has not played competitive cricket since the ODI World Cup final against Australia last November that India lost. Shami has been ruled out of IPL 2024 due to an ankle injury and underwent a surgery for the same in February. On 20 March, Gujarat Titans announced right-arm medium pacer Sandeep Warrier as Shami’s replacement.
Matthew Wade (Gujarat Titans): Australia’s Matthew Wade is set to miss the start of IPL 2024 due to the Sheffield Shield Final. Wade will be turning up for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield Final that takes place from 21 March to 25 March, and as a result he will miss GT’s opening clash against Mumbai Indians on 24 March. He could also miss GT’s second game against Chennai Super Kings on 26 March.
Mark Wood (Lucknow Super Giants): Mark Wood, who picked 11 wickets for LSG in IPL 2023, is set to miss the entirety of IPL 2024. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants to manage Wood’s workload ahead of the T20 World Cup and the home summer, which is why Wood has been ruled out of the IPL. West Indian Shamar Joseph has been named Wood’s replacement .
David Willey (Lucknow Super Giants): The England pacer first pulled out from the start of IPL 2024 before withdrawing from the tournament due to personal reasons. LSG had spent Rs 2 crore on him and later signed New Zealand’s Matt Henry as a replacement. Henry joined at his base price of Rs 1.25 crore.

Gus Atkinson (Kolkata Knight Riders): Gus Atkinson is another player whose workload is being monitored by ECB and thus pulled out of what would have been his debut IPL season. Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera has been named Atkinson’s replacement.
Harry Brook (Delhi Capitals): On Wednesday, Delhi Capitals suffered a setback after Harry Brook was ruled out of IPL 2024 citing personal reasons. Brook had been acquired for Rs 4 crore by the Capitals during the IPL auction in Dubai last year.
Lungi Ngidi (Delhi Capitals): DC lost another player on Friday after South African pacer Lungi Ngidi was ruled out due to an injury. The Delhi franchise have replaced the fast bowler with Australian all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk.
Dilshan Madushanka (Mumbai Indians): A hamstring injury has kept Sri Lanka pacer Dilshan Madushanka out of the IPL. Madushanka was due to represent five-time champions Mumbai Indians. South Africa’s Under-19 World Cup sensation Kwena Maphaka has been named Madushanka’s replacement.
Jason Behrendorff (Mumbai Indians): The Australia pacer was also due to play for MI but Jason Behrendorff has been ruled out of IPL 2024 after sustaining a broken leg while training at the WACA. left-arm pacer Luke Wood has been named Behrendorff's replacement at MI.
Robin Minz (Gujarat Titans): Robin Minz, who had been signed by GT for Rs 3.60 crore, has been ruled out of IPL 2024 after sustaining injuries during a bike accident in early March. Minz has been replaced by Karnataka wicketkeeper-batter BR Sharath.
Adam Zampa (Rajasthan Royals): RR’s Australian spinner Adam Zampa has made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 citing personal reasons. Mumbai all-rounder Tanush Kotian will replace him.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Kolkata Knight Riders): Mujeeb Ur Rahman of Afghanistan was due to play for KKR in IPL 2024 but was ruled out of the IPL after sustaining a right phalanx sprain during the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Teenage Afghan spinner Allah Ghazanfar has been named his replacement.
Shivam Mavi (Lucknow Super Giants): Shivam Mavi was ruled out after he failed to recover from a rib injury. The injury had kept him out of domestic cricket for an extended period and as he reported for the pre-season, he was found to be unfit for the entire period of the tournament.
Wanindu Hasaranga (Sunrisers Hyderabad): Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of IPL 2024 due to a heel injury. The Sri Lankan had been snapped up by SRH for Rs 1.50 crore. Fellow Sri Lankan Vijayakanth Viyaskanth has been named replacement and joins SRH for his base price of Rs 50 lakh.
Vishnu Vinod (Mumbai Indians): The wicketkeeper-batter was ruled out from IPL 2024 on 11 April after sustaining an injury to his forearm. Mumbai Indians replaced him with Saurashtra wicketkeeper-batter Harvik Desai.
Devon Conway (Chennai Super Kings): The New Zealand opener was officially ruled on 18 April out due to a thumb injury. CSK have named England fast bowler Richard Gleeson as his replacement for his base price of Rs 50 lakh.
