Mitchell Starc became a millionaire on Tuesday as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dished out Rs 24.75 crore for the veteran Australian pacer who recently won the ODI World Cup 2023. At the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai, history was made during the IPL 2024 Auction as Starc became the most expensive player in the history of the cash-rich league. Interestingly, Starc broke the record made by his Australian captain Pat Cummins just a while ago . IPL 2024 AUCTION LIVE UPDATES Cummins was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 20.5 crore as he became the most expensive, breaking Sam Curran’s record. Curran was bought for Rs 18.5 crore by Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2023 IPL Auction. Cummins led Australia to the World Test Championship 2023 title and ODI World Cup trophy and deservedly landed a mega deal on Tuesday. However, Strac’s reputation of being one of the best pacers who can bowl fast and swing the ball both ways worked in the 33-year-old’s favour. Starc is now set to return to IPL after a gap of eight years. The last time he played was in 2015 which is his second and last season in the league so far. In the 27 matches so far, he has taken 34 wickets at 20.38. He has an economy rate of 7.17. KKR will be hoping for a turnaround in their fortuned after buying Strac. The Kolkata franchise finished seventh in the point stable last season. If KKR manage to reach the final in IPL 2024, they could end up playing a maximum of 17 matches in total. In such a case, if we break down Starc’s salary, he is set to earn Rs 1.46 crore for every match. As a specialist bowler, he is expected to bowl four overs, which means he will be getting paid over Rs 36 lakh for one over and Rs 1.5 lakh for each delivery.
