India vs New Zealand Highlights, Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: The Harmanpreet Kaur-led India women’s cricket team will open their 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand in a Group A match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday. India have only made the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup once before, in 2020, when they had lost to Australia. The Women in Blue reached the semi-finals of the 2023 edition in South Africa, going down to Australia by five runs.
Other teams in Group A include Pakistan, Australia and Sri Lanka. After this match, India will lock horns against Pakistan on Sunday (6 October) so it’s important that India get off to a winning start.
India have not played competitive cricket since July, but the squad underwent a 10-day training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru in September, focussing on “athletic ability” and “all-round fielding ability”, as per head coach Amol Muzumdar. In July, India had reached the final of the Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament in Dambulla, where they lost to hosts Sri Lanka by eight wickets.
India did have some match practice ahead of the T20 World Cup, beating West Indies and South Africa in the warm-up matches by 20 runs and 28 runs respectively.
