Temba Bavuma and Kagiso Rabada have been rested for South Africa’s white-ball cricket leg of the series against India. Aiden Markram will lead the team in both T20I and ODI series comprising three matches each. Bavuma will return to lead the Test team.
Gerald Coetzee, Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi will all only play in the first two T20Is before coming back for the Test matches.
South Africa have named Tristan Stubbs in the Test squad for the first time, along with batter David Bedingham and seamer Nandre Burger, both of whom are likely to be part of South Africa’s squad to play New Zealand next February.
Wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne makes a return after being dropped last summer. Heinrich Klaasen has been left out of the Test squad.
Anrich Nortje, who had missed the ODI World Cup in India with a lower back stress fracture, is unavailable across all formats with no timeline on his recovery.
The three-match T20I series gets underway on 10 December in Durban and concludes on 14 December. It will be followed by three ODIs from 17-21 December. The teams will then play two Test matches starting 26 December and 3 January, 2024 at Centurion and Newlands respectively.
