India’s young top order will be under pressure to deliver in the series-deciding third T20 International against New Zealand here on Wednesday. It would be fair to say the trio of Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and Rahul Tripathi has not made their opportunities count in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and K L Rahul. After the game on Wednesday, India don’t play a T20I for a long time, leaving the younger crop to make a statement before the focus shifts to the five-day format. Kishan has not been able to find rhythm in his batting since his double hundred in Bangladesh while the turning ball has troubled Gill, who has not been able to replicate his ODI form in the shortest format. Tripathi, too, has wasted chances that have come his way in the absence of regular number three Kohli. If it hadn’t been for Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, India would have struggled to chase down 100 on Sunday. The surfaces in the series have attracted a lot of attention and it remains to be seen if the players get to negotiate another turning track at the Narendra Modi Stadium. In the bowling department, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav playing together has helped India build pressure on the opposition. With the pitch offering a huge amount of turn, it was surprising that Chahal was used only for two overs after he dismissed opener Finn Allen. After struggling with no-balls, Arshdeep Singh was back to his frugal best in Lucknow and that should give him a lot of confidence going into the decider. With the series on the line, Pandya is unlikely to change the playing eleven despite clamour for inclusion of Prithvi Shaw, who made a national comeback with this series. New Zealand, on the other hand, will be expecting more from their middle order. Sensing an opportunity to win a rare series in India. the Blackcaps will be highly motivated for the challenge. Glenn Phillips has not been at his destructive best but trust him to play a match-winning knock on Wednesday. ODI series sensation Michael Bracewell too is due for a game-changing knock. Number three Mark Chapman will also be looking to make a significant contribution. New Zealand used as many as eight bowling options in the previous game with four spinners bowling their full quota of overs. More than 200 runs were scored in the last T20 played here almost two years ago and, after the low-scoring affair in Lucknow, fans would be hoping that normal service is restored. IND vs NZ Live:
Hardik Pandya shakes hands with the BCCI dignitaries and collects the trophy. The squad celebrates the win in some style. After dominating two back-to-back opponents in the limited-overs formats, the Men-in-Blue will now don the whites against Australia after quite a while. We will see you back then again. Until then, have a good time. This is Bansal Shah signing off!
IND vs NZ Live:
Hardik Pandya, Player of the Series and India Captain: I don’t mind winning (man of the series award), but there were so many performances here that were exceptional. This Man of the Series and trophy goes out to the whole support staff and the team.
Not really, to be honest, I always play the game like this (On doing out-of-the-box things tactically). I try to read what is required, not have preconceived ideas.
In my captaincy, I look to keep it simple and back my gut. I have a simple rule, if I go down, I will go down on my terms_._ So at the end of the day, I take calls on my own because I like to take ownership.
We’ve spoken about taking challenges in the dressing room. When we played the IPL final, we felt the second innings was more spicy. We want to normalise these pressure games, and hopefully we can do better at bigger stages. Hopefully, we can continue performing like this.
IND vs NZ Live:
Shubman Gill, player of the match: It feels good when you practise and it pays off. Happy to get the big ones for the team. Everybody has a different technique to hit sixes (on not having a deliberately significant foot movement). Hardik bhai told me to bat the way I do, and that there is no need to do anything extra. When you are representing your country, I don’t think there’s any kind of fatigue. I always wanted to play for India and I am happy to play all three formats.
IND vs NZ Live:
Mitchell Santner, New Zealand captain: It was disappointing. It would be nice to take the trophy but credit to India, they played outstanding. Some of their guys are in great nick at the moment. It is tough to win when you lose five (wickets) in the powerplay.
It can be challenging when the ball is swinging. If you look at the way India played, they took their time early on and when it got flat, they really had a go at us.
I guess that time of the year there will be some dew around, most teams might bowl first (On the 50-over World Cup later this year). We’ve seen some great wickets, if it is like that in October it will be a great World Cup to be part of and to learn. I think 320 would be the score we’d want to restrict teams to then.
IND vs NZ Live:
Rahul Tripathi: I would have been happier had I got some more runs. Rahul sir and everyone has been telling me to play in the same way I have been playing, and look to take advantage in the first six overs. Just see how the conditions are and take on accordingly. It’s a terrific atmosphere in the stadium, playing in front of such a crowd. And even more happy that we have won the series.
IND vs NZ Live:
Absolute domination from the Indian contingent tonight and how crucial was that decision at the toss by Hardik Pandya! He decided to bat first against the standard norm which would be to bowl first – as Mitchell Santner too confirmed – and has got a humungous result for that decision. A massive century by Shubman Gill and brisk innings from Rahul Tripathi and Hardik Pandya led India to 234. Then the bowlers came in, and rattled the Kiwi batters with sheer pace and bounce, obviously helped with some astounding catches by the Indian fielders.
India win the series 2-1
IND vs NZ Live:

IND vs NZ Live:
9.4 New Zealand are falling like skittles here. Lockie Ferguson departs now. On a good length from Pandya, Ferguson tries to smash it but gets it only as far as mid-on. Umran Malik reverse cups it at throat high! Lockie Ferguson c Umran Malik b Hardik Pandya 0(4)
IND vs NZ Live:
8.3 Another superb catch by Suryakumar Yadav! That will be the end of Mitchell Santner. He pulled it hard and well but Suryakumar Yadav comes in the way as the ball starts going down from chest height near the boundary line. SKY balances himself really well after taking the catch and then acts to continue balancing on one foot after he is settled! The Kiwis don’t seem to make a comeback from here. Mitchell Santner c Suryakumar Yadav b Shivam Mavi 13(13)
IND vs NZ Live:

IND vs NZ Live:
Replays show the bails went past the 30-yard circle after Umran Malik cleaned up Michael Bracewell.
IND vs NZ Live:
4.5 Another one has been given OUT. Its Kiwi skipper Mitchell Santner. The ball was going down the leg side, there was some noise as it passed Santner’s gloves and Ishan Kishan was excited from behind the stumps. Nitin Menon signals out but the third umpire has overturned it after Mitchell Santner reviewed the decision.
IND vs NZ Live:
4.3 New Zealand are half the side down! Umran Malik’s pace has undone Michael Bracewell. Short of a good length delivery and moves into the left-hander, Bracewell tries to go for a big hoick but misses it and the ball knocks down the stumps. That hit the top of middle stump. Michael Bracewell b Umran Malik 8(8)
IND vs NZ Live:
3.6 Daryl Mitchell will take four! A short ball, bouncing onto Daryl Mitchell and he has timed his pull well in the mid-wicket region. One bounce and over the ropes for four runs.

3.1 India have asked for an LBW review of Arshdeep Singh’s new over. And the ball is pitching outside leg, the doubt already looming in everyone’s head. A poor review from India!
IND vs NZ Live:
2.6 Michael Bracewell counter-attacks and pulls a short ball for a six over square leg!
New Zealand 13/4 after 3 overs
IND vs NZ Live:
2.4 Action replay of the first wicket! Hardik Pandya the bowler, Suryakumar Yadav the fielder at slips – only a different batter – Glenn Phillips – to bit the dust! SKY times the jump to the ball flying high over his head and pouches the catch excellently! This is dream-like stuff for Indians! Glenn Phillips c Suryakumar Yadav b Hardik Pandya 2(7)
IND vs NZ Live:
1.6 Another wicket for India and the pitch suddenly seems to have changed as the batting unit changes! Excellent delivery from Arshdeep Singh, test match line that and gets Mark Chapman to edge it to Ishan Kishan! Mark Chapman c Ishan Kishan b Arshdeep Singh 0(2)
IND vs NZ Live:
1.1 Devon Conway will accompany his opening partner back to the dressing room! A soft, soft dismissal, Hardik must have taken a lot tougher catches in practice sessions. Arshdeep Singh bowls on a good length, and Conway tries to drive through mid-off but gets it straight to the fielder at mid-off. Devon Conway c Hardik Pandya b Arshdeep Singh 1(2)
IND vs NZ Live:
0.5 Excellent catch by Suryakumar Yadav at slip and that will end Finn Allen’s misery on the Indian tour. Gets a thick edge to a short delivery outside off stump and the ball is flying over slips but SKY times his jump to perfection and takes a perfect catch. An early jolt for the Kiwis. Finn Allen c Suryakumar Yadav b Hardik Pandya 3(4)
New Zealand 4/1 after 1 over

IND vs NZ Live:
Shubman Gill has ruled the first innings of the match and India have finished with a massive score on the board – quite brutal on the Kiwi bowlers. Chase will start soon enough so just catch your breathe and stay glued.
IND vs NZ Live:
19.6 Daryl Mitchell pulls out at the last moment – almost rolling over his arm and the crowd boos. However, he gives just a single on the last ball after that antic.
No boundaries, just six runs in the last over.
India 234/4 after 20 overs
IND vs NZ Live:
19.4 New Zealand review for an edge of Gill’s bat. A bouncer that Gill failed to cut and the ball went close to his bat to the wicketkeeper. Kiwis thought there was an edge.
IND vs NZ Live:
Three runs from the first four balls of the final over. Excellent stuff from Daryl Mitchell!
IND vs NZ Live:
19.1 Hardik Pandya OUT! Daryl Mitchell bowling the final over – Pandya tries to welcome him with a big hoik over long-off but only finds the long-off fielder. A 103-run partnership has been broken. Hardik Pandya c Michael Bracewell b Daryl Mitchell 30(17)
IND vs NZ Live:
18.3 A valiant effort from Michael Bracewell at straight boundary! Dives hard and gets his hand on the ball but fails to hold on to it. That would have been a marvellous catch by Bracewell. Shubman Gill had thumped that low full toss towards long-on and Bracewell has at least saved five runs for his side.
IND vs NZ Live:
17.5 An edge that flies over the third man for a six! Completely mis-timed by Hardik Pandya but still gets the runs.
IND vs NZ Live:
17.3 Shubman Gill is dropped at long off. Plays it aerially over the mid-off fielder but the ball dipped low near the boundary line. Mark Chapman reaches the ball but lets it pop out of his hands.
IND vs NZ Live:
17.1 The new over starts with a new milestone! Slapped through the covers for a four and that will be century number one for Shubman Gill in T20I! The century counter for Shubman Gill shall be started. This is absolute class! Bows down to the crowd – his customary celebration.
IND vs NZ Live:
16.6 A full toss and Hardik has smashed that over mid-off! The fielder there jumps high but the ball flies away like a bullet to the fence. 23 runs of the over
