Rohit Sharma-captained India knocked out defending champions England in the second semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup in Guyana on Thursday, as the Men in Blue made their third final of the showpiece tournament. This is also India’s first final appearance in a T20 World Cup since 2014, when they had lost to Sri Lanka.

The toss was delayed by more than two hours and England opted to field after winning the toss. Reece Topley struck in the third over to remove Virat Kohli and Sam Curran saw off Rishabh Pant three overs later. But, Rohit Sharma (57) and Suryakumar Yadav (47) forged a 73-run stand that eventually took India to 171/7.
A majority of the England batters had no response to India’s spin duo of Axar Patel (3/23) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/19), whereas Jasprit Bumrah (2/12) was lethal as always. Harry Brook (25) was England’s top-scorer as they were all out for 103 in 16.4 overs as India completed a 68-run win.

India will face South Africa in Saturday’s summit clash in Barbados, but before that, it’s worth looking at some key moments from their semi-final against England:
Reece Topley dismisses Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has not had a T20 World Cup to remember barring a knock of 37 against Bangladesh. Prior to this, the 35 year-old had endured four single-figure dismissals in this tournament and on Thursday, Kohli added another one to that list.

Rohit Sharma reaches fifty in style
Rohit Sharma’s return to form has been one of the biggest positives for India. He scored 92 off 41 against Australia in a Super 8 match and followed it up with a 39-ball 57 against England on Thursday.
Rohit, who scored six fours and two sixes, got to his fifty off 36 balls with a sweep over fine leg off Sam Curran that went for a six. Rohit was eventually dismissed by Adil Rashid courtesy a googly in the 14th over.
Chris Jordan’s big over
It was only a few days ago when Chris Jordan had taken a sensational hat-trick against USA. He was close to doing something similar against India on Thursday, but missed out on doing so.
Hardik Pandya had hit Jordan for a couple of consecutive sixes in the 18th over, but the latter got his revenge in the fourth ball with a slower delivery as Hardik hit it hard towards the long-off fielder. Jordan then went short of a length ball around outside off to Shivam Dube in the next ball, but all Dube could do is nick it to the wicketkeeper Jos Buttler despite opening the face of the bat. A hat-trick was not meant to be for Jordan this time around a Axar Patel collected a single off the next ball.
Bumrah’s unplayable ball to clean up Salt
Jasprit Bumrah once again rose up to the occasion, and struck once in the powerplay and once outside off it. The 30-year-old delivered a splendid delivery in the fifth over to remove Phil Salt. It was a slower off-cutter on off stump from Bumrah and Salt, who was not expecting a slower ball from Bumrah, ended up hitting across the line early before being clean bowled.
Rishabh Pant stumps Moeen Ali
Rishabh Pant’s stumping of Moeen Ali in the eighth over of England’s chase was a significant moment in the game. Moeen never really got going, managing just eight runs off 10 balls and not a single boundary.
It was a length ball on leg stump from Axar Patel and a confused Moeen lost his balance as he stepped out of the crease, but before he could get back in, Pant had already done the damage as he dismantled the stumps.
