Less than a week remains for the start of India’s home season, with the Rohit Sharma-led side set to play their first red-ball series in six months when they face Bangladesh in Chennai.
Ever since they defeated South Africa to win the T20 World Cup in Barbados — their first ICC title in a decade — the Men in Blue have been on the road.
Shubman Gill led a second-string Indian team to a 4-1 victory over Zimbabwe while India had a mixed outing in their tour of Sri Lanka, where they swept the T20I series 3-0 under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership but lost the ODIs under Rohit’s captaincy 0-2.
The upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh will be India’s first Test assignment since they halted the ‘Bazball’ juggernaut by defeating the Ben Stokes-led England team 4-1 earlier this year. Before that, they had registered a historic victory in the New Year’s Test in Cape Town to hold South Africa to a 1-1 draw.

As the spotlight once again shifts to the red-ball, five-day format after half-a-year of white-ball, primarily T20 action, it’s worth keeping in mind that there are a few records that the Indians could end up breaking in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Both at an individual as well as at a team level.
Here are some of those records that could be broken in the upcoming series:
— India’s win-loss record in Test cricket is currently level at 178 each, with 222 matches ending in a draw and one in a tie. So long as they win the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh, India will find itself with more wins than defeats in the five-day format for the first time since making their debut in 1932.

More Shorts— Virat Kohli needs another 58 runs to not only become the fastest batter to 27,000 international runs but also the first to achieve the feat in less than 600 innings. Sachin Tendulkar currently holds the record for being the fastest batter to the 27K mark, achieving the feat in 623 innings.
— Kohli also needs another 152 runs to become only the fourth Indian batter after Tendulkar (15,921), Rahul Dravid (13,288) and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122) to score 9,000 or more runs in Test cricket.
— Ravindra Jadeja needs another six wickets to complete the Test double of 3,000 runs and 300 wickets, the feat of which has been achieved by just two Indians till date — Kapil Dev and Ravichandran Ashwin.
— Jadeja will also become the third left-arm spinner to collect 300 or more Test wickets after Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath and New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori if he collects another six wickets.
