The countdown for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh has well and truly begun after the Indian team’s arrival in Chennai followed by their first training session.

Members of the Indian team arrived in the Tamil Nadu capital on Thursday, a week before the first of two Tests against the ‘Tigers’ gets underway at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 19 September.

In one video shared by news agency PTI on X on Thursday evening, batter KL Rahul is seen exiting the airport and proceeding towards the team bus along with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

A separate video showed captain Rohit Sharma entering a private car instead of the team bus, obliging a selfie request from a fan heading to the team hotel.

The BCCI’s official account on X would post images from the team’s first training session at Chepauk the following morning.

“The countdown starts as #TeamIndia begin their preps for an exciting home seasonm,” read the caption of the post.

The Ajit Agarkar-led senior selection committee has so far announced the squad only for the first Test, in which Rahul and Pant make a comeback, the latter set to make his first Test appearance since December 2022. The squad, however, did not include senior pacer Mohammed Shami, who is yet to recover completely after undergoing an ankle surgery, with left-arm pacer Yash Dayal included in his place.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, unveiled their 16-man squad for the upcoming Test series on Thursday, making just one change to the side that whitewashed Pakistan 2-0 earlier this month — uncapped Jaker Ali replacing the injured Shoriful Islam.

The second Test takes place at Kanpur’s Green Park starting 27 September, which will be followed by a T20I series in which the matches take place in Gwalior (6 October), Delhi (9 October) and Hyderabad (12 October) respectively.
