Mohammad Kaif hits back at Warner after 'does not matter' reply, Vaughan takes dig at ex-India cricketer

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif responded to David Warner and Australian fans’ criticism of his comments during the World Cup. The former India middle-order batter had said India were the ‘best team on paper’. In response, Warner had said that the team that does well on the field on the day is the winner - which was the case with the World Cup final on Sunday. In the World Cup final on Sunday in Ahmedabad, Australia beat India rather easily, by six-wickets, to win their sixth ODI World Cup. It ended India’s tremendous run in the tournament which had seen them lap up 10 straight wins including against Australia at the start of the extravaganza. In his latest response, Kaif acknowledged it was Australia’s day on Sunday and they were World Cup winners. He followed it up by stating that it was also a “fact” that India had won 10 matches in a row, had the best bowlers and batters. He went on to claim that India were the tournament’s best team.

Facts: It was Australia's day in final, they won, they are World Cup winners.
More facts: India comprehensively won 10 games, they lost 11th, they had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament's best team.
Both facts, on paper and on field. Relax Australia.

His entire post on X, formerly Twitter, read: “Facts: It was Australia’s day in final, they won, they are World Cup winners. More facts: India comprehensively won 10 games, they lost 11th, they had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament’s best team. Both facts, on paper and on field. Relax Australia.”

I like MK, issue is it does not matter what’s on paper. At the end of the day you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come 👍 https://t.co/DBDOCagG2r

An Australian broadcaster had posted in response to Kaif’s comments: “I think someone needs to remind former Indian batter, Mohammad Kaif that World Cup finals are won on a cricket field and not on paper.” Warner, quoting that post, wrote, “I like MK, issue is it does not matter what’s on paper. At the end of the day, you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come.” Meanwhile, former England captain Michael Vaughan has also taken a dig at Kaif after his latest tweet. Vaughan said that the team which wins the trophy is the best team.

Usually the tournaments best team lift the trophy at the end of the event .. 😜 https://t.co/1FhJY0g44k
