Just four days after their emphatic victory in Perth , Team India will be back in action, albeit in a pink-ball tour match against Australia Prime Minister’s XI. India, the current holders of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, were at their dominant best in the series opener at the Optus Stadium in Perth, where they thoroughly outplayed the Aussies despite missing captain Rohit Sharma and senior pacer Mohammed Shami along with top-order batter Shubman Gill.
Jasprit Bumrah led from the front with eight wickets across the match after filling in for Rohit as skipper, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli slammed centuries as India went 1-0 up in the five-match series with a 295-run victory .
Debutants Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana also impressed in Perth, the former top-scoring in the first innings with a knock of 41 as India were bowled out for 150. Rana, on the other hand, collected four wickets in his maiden appearance for India including three in the first innings.
With Rohit back at the helm after going on paternity leave for the birth of his son, he will be looking to get a hang of the conditions Down Under and acclimatise himself before the second Test – which will be a pink-ball game at the Adelaide Oval – gets underway.
It’s also worth noting that the upcoming match is the only tour/practice game that India will be playing in their trip to Australia. India were scheduled to play a practice match against the India A team that recently lost to Australia A 0-2 in an unofficial Test
