India will begin their 2024-25 home season with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh with the first match taking place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from 19 September. This will be India’s first Test match under new head coach Gautam Gambhir who will be keen to get off on a winning note after experiencing a T20I series win and ODI series loss in Sri Lanka.
The upcoming two-match Test series also offers an opportunity for India to consolidate their position on the top of the World Test Championship points table ahead of the Test series in Australia in November. India have so far played in both WTC finals. The next one will take place at Lord’s in 2025.
IND vs BAN: Schedule, squads, tickets, live streaming for Tests, T20Is
The first Test against Bangladesh will be the first time India will be returning to the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai for a Test match in over three years with the last two matches taking place against England in February 2021. The first match in 2021 proved to be a high-scoring game that England won by 227 runs, before India hit back with a 317-run victory in the second Test.
MA Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report: A report in ESPNCricinfo says that the pitch in Chennai will be made of red soil similar to that of Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which means the pitch will support pacers and provide a good bounce for both spinners and fast bowlers. The temperature is expected to be pretty high in Chennai during the match, around 35 degrees Celsius in September and that means a dry pitch with bounce which will assist the spinners as well.
