India’s journey might have ended in the series but their challenges have not come to an end. Such a loss and that too at home raises many questions. Harmanpreet Kaur said that the team would want fitter players when the next series begins. Wonder where this finger was pointed at? The statement takes us back to MS Dhoni of 2008 who wanted fresh legs in the team as well. Australia, on the other hand, are into the final to play England and the game on 28 March will be a chance to know each others’ weaknesses and prepare for the final. For now, this is a good-bye from us and don’t forget to return and join us when India play England on 29 March.

Australia knock India out of the tournament. England and Australia will play the final on Saturday. Australia must be pleased with their effort after their loss against England. But Harmanpreet Kaur and Co have a lot to ponder over. India’s depth, in all the departments, was lacking and this should ideally kickstart a process to provide more options and flexibility.

Megan Schutt, Player of the Match:

I was trying to hitting the batters on the toes and they happen to hit the stumps. Pretty simple plan and we wanted to be the first team to defend the score and I am glad we came out well.

March 26, 2018, 13:25:35 (IST)
Meg Lanning, Australian captain: It has been a pretty good all-round performance. Generally very happy. We were looking at 180-200-run mark. You can play good cricket shots here; the outfield is pretty fast. We put in a lot of effort in our fitness and it has come off. Our bowlers have been good coming on for one-over spells.

Megan Schutt is the Player of the Match
March 26, 2018, 13:22:27 (IST)

India captain, Harmanpreet Kaur:

We wanted bowl first today as in last 2 games we batted first. We did not utilise. It is a learning experience for us. We are used to these conditions. I don’t think our performance was dependent on the weather. We definitely need fit players in the team. We need players who can run all over the field.

India lose by 36 runs

A nightmare run for India in the series. Australia were again quite professional in the way they came out to win this game. They planned their innings well and then Meg Lanning was superb as the captain, not letting the batters get setlled as she kept on changing the ends of the her bowlers. Some positives for India from this game. Jemimah Rodrigues reached her first fifty in T20Is. However, there are many lessons for them. There is one more match to go for them on 29 March against England and hopefully the Indians will come out good in that match.

March 26, 2018, 13:13:31 (IST)

After 20 overs, Ind 150/5 (Anuja Patil 36, Vastrakar 19)

India lose the game by 36 runs and their journey comes to an end in this series. However, there is one match to go but it will be a mere formality. Huge lessons for the Indian side from this and the last ODI series against Australia.

March 26, 2018, 13:12:37 (IST)
FOUR! Reverse-sweep from Anuja and that brings the fifty partnership between her and Vastrakar.
March 26, 2018, 13:11:41 (IST)
India set to lose by a big margin. It was a given after the early wickets in the powerplay. India’s weaknesses continue to show in the tournament.
March 26, 2018, 13:11:19 (IST)
DROPPED! Gardner drops it at mid-wicket but it won’t hurt Aussies.
March 26, 2018, 13:10:19 (IST)
FOUR! Anuja comes out and hits it over the cover.

After 19 overs, Ind 136/5 (Anuja Patil 27, Vastrakar 16)

It is almost all-over for India in the series. runs to get off the last six balls of the match. The crowd had been cheering for them from the stands but the Indian players did not back it up with performance. Not just a loss but a boring chase as well.

March 26, 2018, 13:04:57 (IST)

After 18 overs, Ind 130/5 (Anuja Patil 25, Vastrakar 13)

Good over for India as they hit 3 boundaries but it is too late a surge. 2 overs remaining and still 57 to get. Not impossible but too dificult a task.

March 26, 2018, 13:03:35 (IST)
FOUR! Reverse-sweep from Anuja fetches her a four as the fielder at short third-man makes a mess in the field
March 26, 2018, 13:02:38 (IST)
FOUR! Vastrakar tries to go big over the bowler’s head and that has gone for a four.
March 26, 2018, 13:00:59 (IST)
FOUR! Anuja shows some aggression, coming out an hitting it over the covers for a boundary.
March 26, 2018, 13:00:09 (IST)

After 17 overs, Ind 116/5 (Anuja Patil 16, Vastrakar 8)

Megan Schutt returns into the attack. Healy missed a difficult stumping chance. India needing 71 from 18 but guess that is not of any importance to them.

After 16 overs, Ind 111/5 (Anuja Patil 15, Vastrakar 5)

Delissa Kimmince comes back. Change in ends of the bowlers have not helped the Indians at all and this was a master move by Lanning. It seems India have lost the match mentally as they are still looking just for singles and the big shots are not powerful enough to cross the boundary ropes.

March 26, 2018, 12:55:58 (IST)
FOUR! Full-toss, takes the leading edge and races to the fine-leg boundary.
March 26, 2018, 12:52:34 (IST)

After 15 overs, Ind 102/5 (Anuja Patil 8, Vastrakar 3)

Jess Jonassen is back into the attack. Too much to ask from the lower-order batters now. The game is slipping from the hands and someone has to play a blinder if India wants to win this one.

March 26, 2018, 12:52:34 (IST)
A few fans started to leave as soon as Jemimah was dismissed. Says a thing or two about the impact she has had just at the age of 17. And as I type this even Harmanpreet holes out to deep square leg. This match is heading in only one direction now.
March 26, 2018, 12:51:43 (IST)
DROPPED! Australians put down another one. It is Perry this time as she could not hold on to the catch. Reprieve for Vastarakar.
March 26, 2018, 12:49:23 (IST)

After 14 overs, Ind 97/5 (Anuja Patil 6, Vastrakar 0)

India lost skipper Harmanpreet Kaur in the last over as well and this seems to be becoming an impossible chase for India, they need 90 from 36 now.

OUT! Harmanpreet could not time this one and has been caught at long-on boundary. Delissa Kimmince b Gardner 33(30)
March 26, 2018, 12:46:45 (IST)
SIX! Harmanpreet has pressed the button and hits the first six of the innings which goes flying over the ropes.
March 26, 2018, 12:45:49 (IST)
FOUR! Harmanpreet comes out and places between the fielders at mid-wicket and long-on
March 26, 2018, 12:45:10 (IST)
FOUR! That’s slashed from Anuja’s willow through the gully region.
March 26, 2018, 12:44:33 (IST)

After 13 overs, Ind 82/4 (Anuja Patil 1, Harmanpreet Kaur 23)

An important partnership broken between Harmanpreet and Rodrigues by Kimmince.Patil joins in and she can hit some for sure. India won’t mind as they need some runs.

March 26, 2018, 12:43:13 (IST)
DROPPED! Nearly an excellent catch their by fielder at point region.

March 26, 2018, 12:41:50 (IST)
OUT! Ah! What an end. Rodrigues has fallen trying to hit the ball over the covers but Schutt was there to catch it.

March 26, 2018, 12:41:29 (IST)
A nice little partnership building between Jemimah and Harmanpreet. The former has done the bulk of the scoring. Also brings up her fifty off 39 balls.
March 26, 2018, 12:39:59 (IST)

After 12 overs, Ind 77/3 (Rodrigues 50, Harmanpreet Kaur 19)

Amanda Wellington came back into the attack and she has been brilliant to say the least. Bowling slower through the air she has kept the batters at bay. But the over was special for Rodrigues as she reached fifty, her maiden in T20Is.

March 26, 2018, 12:38:41 (IST)
FIFTY! Four hit to the mid-wicket And that’s Rodrigues’ first fifty in T20Is. The crowd is right behind her. What a moment for the young batter playing at her home ground.
March 26, 2018, 12:35:36 (IST)

After 11 overs, Ind 72/3 (Rodrigues 46, Harmanpreet Kaur 18)

Jess Jonassen came back into the attack. Harmanpreet looked to get under the ball but Jess was ready for those attempts. More miscommunication seen between kaur and Rodrigues. The 17-year-old, however, looking to score runs now in big numbers, nearing her fifty.

March 26, 2018, 12:34:44 (IST)
FOUR! Rodrigues goes down the ground and it is a boundary through the covers.

March 26, 2018, 12:32:28 (IST)

After 10 overs, Ind 65/3 (Rodrigues 41, Harmanpreet Kaur 16)

Another change of ends for Perry as she comes into the attack. A close run-out chance was there to be taking for Australians as Harmanpreet tapped the ball and ran to take an impossible single. She had to dive in to rescue herself as the fielder missed the stumps. Lack of communication between the Indians batters today easily reflected. Rodrigues did pick one boundary from the last over. First ten overs gone and now India would like to up the tempo of the innings.

March 26, 2018, 12:31:45 (IST)
FOUR! Well placed by Rodrigues. She waited for the short, slow ball and opened the face of the bat to guide it through the gully region for four.
March 26, 2018, 12:27:18 (IST)
A tricky phase this for India. They need to increase the run rate without losing any wicket. As of now, they are looking to recover with singles coupled with the odd boundary. But the approach must change after a couple of overs.
March 26, 2018, 12:26:12 (IST)

After 9 overs, Ind 58/3 (Rodrigues 37, Harmanpreet Kaur 13)

Ashleigh Gardner, right-arm off break, introduced into the attack. India reach fifty but at a  snail’s space. Singles won’t do too much damage to the Aussies. Just one four from the last over. Either of the two batters have to take the responsibility.
