On 7 December, a heated exchange took place in the the Legends League Cricket (LLC) tournament involving former India cricketers Gautam Gambhir and S. Sreesanth. The incident took place during an Eliminator match between the India Capitals, led by Gambhir, and the Gujarat Giants. Words were exchanged and Gambhir allegedly referred to S Sreesanth as a ‘fixer’ during the match . The exchange between the two cricketers quickly escalated, and Sreesanth even went live on his Instagram page, where he accused Gambhir of misconduct. This accusation carried particular sensitivity owing to Sreesanth’s past, where he had been handed a life ban for his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal in IPL 2013. The Supreme Court of India later reduced the ban to seven years in 2019. Sreesanth claimed that Gambhir initiated the verbal altercation without any provocation from his end and even used inappropriate and disrespectful language . He said that he did not use foul language even when responding but was deeply hurt by the incident, which also affected his family and loved ones. In response, Gambhir, who never takes back step, and has been involved in a number of on-field altercations , cryptically posted a picture on social media, showing himself smiling in the Indian jersey with a caption that spoke about garnering attention. He was asked about the incident in a charity event in Delhi. When asked about the heated argument with Sreesanth, he said, “I don’t have anything to comment on this; I am here for a noble cause and don’t want to talk about that,” he had said. Sreesanth, however, has not yet let this incident pass by. He criticised Gambhir by leaving a detailed comment on one of Gambhir’s Instagram posts where he condemned him for the “fixer” remarks.
