Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had to wait for a while before buying their first player as they entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction with a small budget. They opened their IPL Auction 2025 account with the purchase of opener Devon Conway who returned to the franchise for Rs 6.25 crore, while Rahul Tripathi joined them for Rs 3.40 crore. They also brought back Rachin Ravindra (Rs 4 crore) by using the RTM card after Punjab Kings (PBKS) made a winning bid of Rs 3.2 crore.
They just didn’t stop there. CSK broke the bank for senior Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, spending Rs 9.75 crore to bring him back to the Chepauk while pacer Khaleel Ahmed and Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad were also added to the squad. On Monday, CSK acquired England’s Sam Curran and uncapped Indian player Shaik Rasheed.
The five-time IPL champions had earlier retained a majority of Indian players including MS Dhoni for just Rs 4 crore under the new BCCI rule that allowed capped players who have not played international cricket for five years to be retained under the uncapped category.
Matheesha Pathirana was the only foreign player they retained among the five cricketers they held onto by the retention deadline.
