The wait is almost over as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Friday that the Indian cricket team for the upcoming ODI series against England at home and the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan and UAE will be picked in Mumbai on 18 January (Saturday).
The selection meeting will be followed by a press conference at the Wankhede Stadium at 12.30 PM IST which will be attended by Team India captain Rohit Sharma and men’s selection committee head Ajit Agarkar. Rohit and Agarkar are expected to announce the Champions Trophy 2025 squad in the press conference.
By announcing the Rohit will be attending the press conference as the captain, the BCCI has also confirmed that the 37-year-old will continue as the skipper in the 50-over format.
India’s CT squad to come out on 18 Jnauary
“The Men’s Selection Committee will select India’s squad for the IDFC First Bank ODI series against England and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 tomorrow in Mumbai. The Selection Meeting will be followed by a press conference,” the BCCI said in a statement.
While the three ODIs against England will be played on 6 February (Nagpur), 9 February (Cuttack) and 12 February (Ahmedabad), the Champions Trophy 2025 campaign for the Men in Blue will start on 20 February against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Team India will be playing all their Champions Trophy 2025 matches in Dubai under a new hybrid model arranged for ICC tournaments in Pakistan and India till 2026.
The highly-anticipated India vs Pakistan match will be played on 23 February.
All eyes on Bumrah’s availability
The Champions Trophy 2025 and Englnad ODI series quads on Saturday will provide much-needed clarity on Jasprit Bumrah’s injury. The pacer did not bowl in the second innings of the Sydney Test against Australia earlier this month and while it has been reported in media that he has been adviced “bed rest,” the 31-year-old has labelled the reports as “fake news”.
Mohammed Shami, who was earlier picked in the squad for the five-match T20I series against England starting on 22 January in Kolkata, can also make a return to the ODI squad. His last international match for India was the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November 2023.
