As the excitement builds for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 , controversy has erupted over the installation of oversized screens at Karachi’s National Stadium, leading to dissatisfaction from the International Cricket Council (ICC). The governing body has reportedly expressed its concerns to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the issue, raising significant questions about the venue’s preparations ahead of the prestigious tournament.
PCB faces fresh challenge ahead of Champions Trophy
According to reports from RevSportz, the ICC has taken issue with two large screens installed at strategic locations within the stadium. The screens, which were intended to enhance the fan experience by providing clear and live visuals of the game, have instead caused a problem. Fans who have purchased seats that may be obstructed by these screens are now left in an unfortunate position, as they will be unable to enjoy the full view of the action on the field when the tournament kicks off.
In a communication, the ICC reportedly reprimanded the PCB for not adequately considering the seating arrangements in relation to the placement of these screens. The issue at hand revolves around the fact that several seats, which were sold to fans, are now partially or fully blocked by the oversized displays.
The ICC has urged the PCB to offer compensation in the form of refunds to those who will be affected by the obstruction. The move is an attempt to ensure that the tournament remains a memorable experience for all fans, maintaining the standards and expectations associated with an ICC event.
This isn’t the first controversy the PCB has faced since securing the hosting rights for the tournament . From struggles in inviting India to Pakistan to delays in completing stadium renovations, the PCB has frequently found itself in the spotlight over various challenges. It will be interesting to see how PCB addresses this latest issue as the Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin on 19 February, approaches.
