As the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy approaches, the excitement surrounding the tournament has been marred by a number of high-profile players being ruled out due to injuries. These absentees will undoubtedly affect the teams’ dynamics, as several star players from Australia, Pakistan, and South Africa have been sidelined for the marquee event, leaving teams to reconsider their strategies.

Australia suffers the biggest setback

Australia, one of the favourites in the tournament, has been hit hard by a series of injuries to key players. The biggest blow comes with the absence of Pat Cummins , the team’s talismanic fast bowler and captain, who has been ruled out due to an ankle injury.

Alongside Cummins, Mitchell Marsh, the all-rounder, will also miss the competition after suffering a back injury. Another significant absentee from the Australian camp is Josh Hazlewood, who has been ruled out with a hip injury.

Adding to the list of Australia’s absentees is Marcus Stoinis, who has retired from international cricket after dealing with multiple injuries over the years. Stoinis announced his ODI retirement on Thursday, making himself unavailable for the Champions Trophy.

Pakistan’s promising talent misses out

Pakistan, known for their unpredictable style of play, will also miss out on the services of one of their promising young players, Saim Ayub. Ayub, who had been showing great potential in the lead-up to the Champions Trophy, will not feature due to an ankle injury.

South Africa’s two key players ruled out

South Africa, another team with a rich cricketing tradition, faces a tough situation with several injuries to key players. Anrich Nortje, a fast bowler who has been in sublime form recently, has been ruled out due to a back injury.

Furthermore, Gerald Coetzee, another pace option for South Africa, has been ruled out with a groin tightness and hamstring injury. Coetzee, who had been impressive with his speed and accuracy, will not be available for selection, leaving South Africa with fewer options in their fast-bowling department.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is not currently on this list, but if his injury assessment doesn't yield positive results, he could potentially be ruled out of the Champions Trophy as well.
