BCCI have invited applications for the post of Indian men’s cricket team head coach.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for the post of Indian men’s cricket team’s head coach for a period of three and half years on Monday. Rahul Dravid’s tenure will end after the T20 World Cup but he can re-apply .

“The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates,” a BCCI release said.

The selected coach will take immediate charge of the men’s national team from 1 July and the term will expire on 31 December, 2027.

What is the minimum criteria to become Indian cricket team’s head coach?

BCCI has invited experienced former players or coaches for this high profile job.

- Interested candidates should have played a minimum of: 30 Tests or 50 ODIs OR have been a head coach of a full member Test playing nation for at least two years OR coach of an Associate member/IPL team or equivalent/First Class teams/National A teams for at least three years OR someone with a BCCI Level 3 Certification

- BCCI have only invited candidates below 60 years of age to apply for this role

What is the job description to become Indian cricket team’s head coach?

The head coach will work with a supervised staff of 14-16 individuals. Following are the key responsibilities for the coach of the Indian cricket team:

- Develop an Indian cricket team which delivers success in all conditions and formats, while inspiring current and future generations

- Take control of the performance and management of the team in all three formats

- The coach will receive support from a set of specialist coaches and support staff. The individual will “responsible for defining their roles, their performance and ongoing development”

- Lastly, the coach will be responsible for maintaining discipline in the Indian team

Who will the coach be answerable to?

The Indian cricket team’s coach will be answerable to stakeholders in fans, broadcasters, media and national teams (external) and BCCI officials, BCCI CEO and the Men’s Senior Selection Committee (internal).
