 "BCCI to look for new coach, Rahul Dravid can re-apply: Jay Shah")
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) general secretary Jay Shah has revealed that the Indian cricket board will soon be advertising for the head coach spot in the senior men’s team and mentioned that current coach Rahul Dravid is free to reapply for the position.
“Rahul Dravid’s tenure is till the World Cup, we will be inviting applications soon for the post of head coach and if Dravid wants to reapply, he can do it," he was quoted as saying by Indian Express. “We have decided the criteria. Thereafter we will invite applications for support staff in consultation with the Cricket Advisory Committee. The coach’s tenure will be of three years.”
Dravid’s original tenure with Team India was over after the 2023 ODI World Cup but he was given an extension till the 2024 T20 World Cup as he helped the Men in Blue reach the final of the ICC ODI event.
Shah also added that “other members of the coaching staff, such as batting, bowling, and fielding coaches, will be decided after consultation with the new coach”.
On the ‘Impact Player’ rule in IPL which is facing a lot of criticism, Shah said that it was “used as a test” and is not “permanent”.
“Impact player was used as a test (in this IPL), it was done so that two Indian players could get a chance. It’s not permanent, we will have a discussion with the Indian team captain, players, franchises, coaches and then take a call on it. The meeting can happen once the World Cup is over.” Shah shared.
