Indian left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh further cemented his reputation as one of the leading bowlers in the shortest format after being adjudged the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2024. India Test and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, was named captain of ICC’s T20I Team of the Year 2024, having led the Indian team to the title in last year's T20 World Cup in the US and the Caribbean.
Arshdeep had played a key role in India’s victory, which won them their first ICC trophy in over a decade as well as their second world title in the shortest format, finishing second on the list of wicket-takers with 17 wickets at an average of 12.64. The Punjab Kings pacer had also the second-highest wicket-taker among players from Test-playing nations, finishing with 36 wickets at an average of 13.50.

Though Rohit would have a disastrous run in Tests later that year, he had sparkled with the bat in T20Is after returning to the format along with Virat Kohli in the three-match series against Afghanistan in January. Rohit would go on to score 378 runs in 11 matches at an impressive average of 42.00 and a strike rate of over 160 before retiring alongside Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja following India's triumph over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Besides Rohit and Arshdeep, senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah and seam-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Bumrah had also been nominated for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.

Mandhana, Ghosh and Deepti included in women’s T20I Team of the Year
The ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year 2024, meanwhile, had three Indians including star opener Smriti Mandhana, who was the leading T20I run-scorer last year (including players from Associate Nations) with 763 runs at an average of 42.38.
Besides Mandhana, who recently captained India to a 3-0 ODI series sweep against Ireland at home, explosive wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh and leading all-rounder Deepti Sharma were the other Indians included in the women’s T20I team of the year in which South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt was named captain.
Ghosh had struck 365 runs in 21 games at a strike rate of 156.05 while off-spinner Deepti had collected 30 wickets at an average of 17.80, maintaining a tight economy rate of 6.01.
Mandhana and Deepti were also included in the ICC’s Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024. The former was also the leading ODI run-scorer last year, amassing 747 runs at an average of 57.46, collecting four centuries and three half-centuries along the way.
Deepti, on the other hand, was the leading wicket-taker – finishing with 24 wickets at an average of 19.83 with a best performance of 6.31.
