India vs South Africa, T20 World Cup 2024 Final TOSS: India win the toss and skipper Rohit Sharma opts to bat. Both teams announce unchanged lineups for today’s marquee contest.
India vs South Africa, T20 World Cup 2024 Final Preview: Team India will hope to end their 11-year ICC trophy drought when they take on South Africa in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados on Saturday. This will be India’s third final in a T20 World Cup whereas the Proteas are making their first-ever appearance. The Men in Blue have not won a major ICC title since the 2013 Champions Trophy despite having reached the finals of three major tournaments in the last 12 months (World Test Championship and ODI World Cup).
Both India and South Africa enter this final on the back of unbeaten runs in the tournament. While India have won seven out of their eight matches, with their final group stage match against Canada being washed out, South Africa have maintained a 100 per cent winning run in the lead-up to the final.
Senior batter Virat Kohli’s form is a cause for concern for India. The 35 year-old has managed to score just 75 runs from seven matches at an average of 10.71 in this World Cup, but head coach Rahul Dravid has backed the former captain to come good in the final.
“I don’t want to jinx it but I think there’s a big one coming up. I’m just loving his attitude and that he’s committing himself on the field – I think he deserves it,” Dravid said ahead of the final.
What puts India in good stead is the recent form of captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit has scored consecutive fifties against Australia in the Super 8 and then England in the semi-final. Suryakumar Yadav has also looked good with a few brilliant knocks under pressure and Hardik Pandya has often provided finishing touches with the bat.
In bowling, India could persist with Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel along with Ravindra Jadeja as the third spinner. In-form pacer Jasprit Bumrah will also be raring to go against the Proteas.
As far as South Africa are concerned, Reeza Hendricks is yet to maintain consistency with the bat but the Proteas will hope Quinton de Kock rediscovers the form he was n against USA and England in Super 8, when he scored consecutive fifties.
While there is rain and thunderstorm forecast for Saturday in Barbados, there is a reserve day in place on Sunday, 30 June in case play is not possible on Saturday. In case of a washout, both India and South Africa will be declared joint winners.
The likes of David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen will likely come up against Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, and that’s going to be an enticing match-up in the final.

South Africa XI: Quinton de Kock(wk), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram(c), Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi
