Chennai Super Kings suffered a massive blow as their pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s had to be stretchered off the field during the third ODI against Sri Lanka today.

The incident took place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram during the third ODI between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The left-arm seamer was struggling in the match and even had to clutch his stomach during the 42nd over, and also collapsed once he completed his over.

In the 48th over, Mustafizur made an attempt to return and bowl his final over but failed to complete even the first delivery. He bowled a wide ball with a shortened run-up and then conveyed to his captain that he was unable to continue. The 28-year-old then had to be stretchered off the field.

Mustafizur, who has represented various IPL franchises in the past including Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, had been acquired by CSK at his base price of Rs 2 crore during the player auction that took place in December in Dubai.

The defending champions, who defeated Gujarat Titans in last year’s final to win the tournament for a fifth time, are grappling with injuries to several key players. New Zealand opener Devon Conway is set to miss more than half of the season after suffering a thumb injury during the T20I series against Australia at home.

Conway later confirmed he would be undergoing surgery on his left thumb and isn’t expected to be back in action until May at the earliest, and Chennai might have to turn to another Kiwi for Ruturaj Gaikwad’s opening partner in Rachin Rachindra, one of the standout performers in last year’s ICC World Cup.

Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who has been impressive in the yellow jersey especially as a death bowler, too is set to miss at least four-five weeks’ worth of action after suffering a hamstring injury during the recently-concluded T20I series in Bangladesh.
