Indian cricket captain Shubman Gill had an awkward moment during a casual outing in Australia when a handshake with a fan took an unexpected turn. The fan shouted “Pakistan Zindabad” as soon as Gill shook his hand, leaving the Indian captain visibly surprised. The incident quickly drew attention on social media.
Pakistani fan taunts Shubman Gill
Gill was out for a walk with teammate Harshit Rana wearing a black hoodie and sky-blue jeans when the encounter happened. A Pakistani fan approached him, and Gill politely shook his hand. But the political slogan caught him off guard, and he continued on his way without reacting.
This comes just weeks after the Asia Cup 2025 controversy, where India refused to shake hands with Pakistani players as a sign of protest over the Pahalgam terror attack. After India defeated Pakistan in the final of the tournament, the Indian team refused to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the boss of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The Indian cricket team is currently in Australia for a three-match ODI series. After losing the first game in Perth, the team is playing the second ODI, which is expected to be crucial for the series.
In the second ODI on Thursday, India made 264 for 9 in their 50 overs. After losing early wickets, Rohit Sharma’s 73 and Shreyas Iyer’s 61 helped India get to a fighting total, but Adam Zampa and Xavier Bartlett kept the hosts on top with some tight bowling.
Put in to bat first, India had a poor start as Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli got out early, leaving the team at 17 for 2. Rohit and Iyer then steadied the innings with a 118-run stand, but once both got out, India struggled to build momentum.
