India Test captain Shubman Gill has been forced to wear a neck collar as he recovers from an injury blow. At the same time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has summoned Nitish Kumar Reddy to replace the skipper in the squad for the second Test against South Africa.
Gill suffered a neck injury while batting on Day 2 of the first Test against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which India lost by 30 runs. Gill was forced to stay at a hospital due to a neck spasm injury, ruling him out of the first Test.
Gill set to miss second Test in Guwahati
Now, Cricket Association of Bengal sources have confirmed that Gill is unlikely to travel with the team to Guwahati for the second and final Test of the series that starts on Saturday. India will be holding an optional training session in Kolkata on Tuesday, and Gill is set to miss that as well due to “acute pain” in the neck.
“He has acute neck pain, and we’re not allowed to further go to details about the injury. He has to keep continue wearing the neck collar,” the source told news agency PTI. “He has been advised three-four days rest and not to take flight.

“In this situation, he is not advised to travel to Guwahati. But we are monitoring his progress on a daily basis and the picture will be clearer by Tuesday,” the sources added.
India recall Nitish Reddy to Test team
Meanwhile, Nitish Reddy, who is part of the India A team, has been asked to rejoin the squad, according to the Times of India. Reddy was released before the Kolkata Test as he became surplus to requirements on a dry, spin-friendly pitch.

He could be added back to the playing XI, but India may opt for a pure batter. They still have options of B Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal on the bench. However, they may not want to add another left-hander to the team.
