Team India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad was finally unveiled on Tuesday. A list of 15 players has been finalised for the upcoming multi-nation tournament, scheduled to take place from September 9 to 28. While a strong team has been put forward by BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, some major snubs can also be noticed, leaving plenty to discuss.
Among those selected, the inclusions of Shubman Gill, Shivam Dube, and Harshit Rana have sparked significant buzz on social media, generating polarised opinions among fans. Their selection came at the expense of other players. Focusing on that, here are the notable exclusions from Team India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad.
Shreyas Iyer
Despite being one of the most consistent batters across all formats in the last year, Shreyas Iyer has not found a place in the side for the Asia Cup. Iyer’s snub comes as a major surprise, as the player had an exceptional IPL 2025 as well, where he scored 604 runs and led Punjab Kings to the final. Moreover, he was the leading run-getter for India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 that was held in February and March. He was exceptional in the domestic circuit as well. What more he needed to do to fetch the selection is a query that Indian cricket enthusiasts likely be mulling over.
Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj was the chief architect behind India’s thrilling victory against England in the fifth Test at the Oval. He was also the leading wicket-taker of the series (23). Yet, he is not in the plans for the Asia Cup.
Prasidh Krishna
Prasidh Krishna, who claimed 25 wickets in IPL 2025 to win the Purple Cap (given to the leading wicket-taker of the season), and had a decent England tour as well, where he took 14 wickets, will have to wait to make his way back into the T20 side.
Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi was a part of the T20 team for a considerable period. He has consistently bowled tight overs and occasionally picked up crucial breakthroughs. However, his lack of exceptional variations has prevented him from cementing a permanent spot in the team, ultimately making him a player who can be easily rotated.
Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar has emerged as a utility player for India in the last year. He can bowl tight overs as well as provide much-needed depth in batting. Moreover, his heroics from the recently-concluded England series might be fresh in the minds of selectors as well. Despite that, he could not make it to the Asia Cup 2025 squad.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Although Yashasvi Jaiswal has not been in contention for India’s T20 team for some time, his recent performances in the IPL and Test matches against England have led many to speculate about his selection for the Asia Cup. However, the BCCI has put all speculation to rest by not selecting him.
Besides these, Rishabh Pant is also not in the squad. For the unversed, Pant sustained a toe fracture in the fourth Test of the series against England, and hence has been ruled out for some time.
