Vaibhav Suryavanshi makes IPL history after Rajasthan Royals pick 14-year-old for Lucknow Super Giants clash

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was named in the Impact Subs list for Rajasthan Royals’ home game against Lucknow Super Giants at Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Stadium, becoming the youngest player ever to feature in an Indian Premier League match.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history on Saturday, becoming the youngest player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after picked by the Rajasthan Royals’ for their home game against Lucknow Super Giants. Suryavanshi had made headlines after getting picked by the franchise in the mega auction that took place in Jeddah in November, becoming the youngest player in the history of the world's biggest T20 league .

And on Saturday, 23 days after his 14th birthday, the left-handed batter from Bihar became the youngest player to feature in an IPL match.

Suryavanshi included in Impact Subs list for RR vs LSG clash

Suryavanshi, however, was included in the ‘Impact Subs’ list and not named in the playing XI right away, and could feature later in the match when it’s the Royals’ turn to bat with Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant having opted to bat after winning the toss.

Meanwhile, skipper Sanju Samson was ruled out of Saturday’s clash due to an injury he had suffered in the away clash against Delhi Capitals. Batting all-rounder Riyan Parag, who had led the Royals in Samson’s absence in the first half of the season, was back at the helm for the 2008 IPL champions.

LSG, too, made just one change to their lineup, with seamer Prince Yadav coming in for Akash Deep.

While Lucknow sit at the middle of the table with four wins and three losses, Rajasthan find themselves desperately needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

RR currently are eighth on the table with five losses in seven outings, losing the Super Over against DC in Delhi on Wednesday after failing to chase down a target of 189 despite having six wickets in hand.
