India’s captain Rohit Sharma etched his name in the history books once again as he became the fourth Indian batter to breach the 11,000-run mark in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The veteran opener achieved the milestone during India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday.

Rohit reached the landmark in style, lofting a Mustafizur Rahman delivery over mid-on for a boundary in the 4th over. Though the ball came off the inside half of his bat, it had enough power to cross the ropes, marking a significant moment in his illustrious career. With this feat, Rohit became only the fourth Indian to score 11,000 ODI runs, following in the footsteps of legendary batters Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Sourav Ganguly.
The Indian skipper also became the 10th player overall in men’s cricket to reach the milestone. Rohit reached the milestone in 261 innings, making him the second-fastest player to achieve the feat after Virat Kohli. Kohli had crossed the 11,000-run mark in just 222 innings during India’s 2019 Cricket World Cup match against Pakistan in Manchester.
Here’s how Rohit Sharma ranks among the fastest batters to 11,000 ODI runs:
Fewest innings to 11,000 ODI runs:
222 – Virat Kohli (India)
261 – Rohit Sharma (India)
276 – Sachin Tendulkar (India)
286 – Ricky Ponting (Australia)
288 – Sourav Ganguly (India)
Since making his ODI debut in 2007, Rohit Sharma has cemented his place as one of the greatest white-ball batters of all time. His ability to score big has been unmatched, as evidenced by his three double centuries in ODIs, a record no other player holds.
With India eyeing another ICC title in the Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit’s form will be crucial as they navigate through the high-pressure matches ahead.
