KL Rahul got a reprieve on 9 after Jaker Ali dropped a sitter at deep midwicket, and ironically it was him who got the honour of scoring the winning runs. smashing Tanzim Hasan Sakib for a maximum.   Earlier in the day, Towhid Hridoy braved pain to bring up his maiden ODI century and added 154 for the sixth wicket with Jaker Ali (68), helping Bangladesh recover from a disastrous start to post a relatively competitive 228 after opting to bat at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. For the Men in Blue, Mohammed Shami (5/53) and Harshit Rana (3/31) collected eight out of 10 wickets with the former collecting his sixth ODI five-for. Axar Patel collected the remaining wickets, removing Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Mushfiqur Rahim in successive deliveries and nearly collecting a hat-trick.

Champions Trophy, IND vs BAN Live: Rahul escapes another dismissal scare as India breach the 200-barrier!

Rahul would have fallen short of the crease after pushing the ball towards mid off for a risky single had the fielder in that direction hit the non-striker’s stumps directly. Bangladesh skipper Najmul brings Mustafizur and Tanzim back into the attack after Mehidy and Rishad bowl out their quotas, but the Tigers don’t have much in the bank to defend. Gill brings up the milestone by pulling a half-tracker towards the cow corner fence off Rishad’s last ball of the evening, resulting in the leg-spinner signing off with figures of 2/38.

The pendulum has swung India’s way once again as they find themselves needing less than 50 to win with plenty of wickets and overs in hand. Rahul and Gill have shifted gears with a flurry of boundaries after the former was dropped by Jaker in the deep. India 195/4 after 41, need 34 off 54

Champions Trophy, IND vs BAN Live: DROPPED! Jaker Ali puts down a sitter at deep midwicket as KL Rahul survives on 9!

India had wasted a handful of opportunities during Bangladesh’s innings earlier today and looks like it’s Bangladesh’s turn to return the favour, with Jaker failing to collect a regulation catch in front of the boundary rope.

Meanwhile, the commentators are questioning Rahul for attempting a wild slog, especially when he’s hardly settled at the crease. To make matters worse for the Tigers, Taskin concedes a boundary two balls later with a wayward delivery. IND 172/4 after 37, need 57 off 78

Time for the final drinks break of the Champions Trophy Group A match between India and Bangladesh. Gill currently is batting on 66 and his presence will be crucial to India starting their campaign with a win. Joining him is wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, who’s batting on 7 off 14 deliveries, collecting all of his runs through singles.

It’s not easy scoring runs at the moment. However, in India’s case, they have a set batter at the centre, six wickets in hand and a required rate that’s under five. IND 161/4 after 35; need 68 off 90 balls

Rohit’s dismissal had led to a slowdown of sorts as the boundaries began to dry up and dot balls began to accumulate after the end of the fielding restrictions. Gill, however, decides to tackle the issue head-on as he gives express pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib the charge, lofting the ball over cover in the second delivery of the 15th over.

He gets a pat of appreciation from Kohli. Gill, however, nearly perishes three balls later while trying to play a short-arm jab off Tanzim, which nearly results in a catch for Soumya Sarkar near mid-on. IND 84/1 after 15

Indian cricket team faces big Test in Champions Trophy 2025

Team India’s Champions Trophy 2025 campaign starts with a match against Bangladesh on Thursday (20 February) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India are the favourites for the match but the bigger goal is the Champions Trophy title and after a Test series loss at home to New Zealand and a 3-1 drubbing in Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, nothing less than the silverware will work for the Indian cricket fans.

The tournament is also a litmus test for captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir who are facing immense scrutiny after India’s poor form in Test cricket. Meanwhile, India are without the services of injured Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami is expected to lead the pace attack. Virat Kohli, who has been in poor form lately, will also look to rediscover his form soon and win another ICC tournament.
