 "Worry for India: Rishabh Pant retires hurt after nasty blow on forearm ahead of South Africa series")
Rishabh Pant gave Indian fans a major scare on Day 3 of India A’s four-day match against South Africa A after he was forced to retire hurt following a painful blow on his left forearm. The wicketkeeper-batter, who recently returned from a long injury layoff, was seen in visible discomfort after being hit by South African pacer Tshepo Moreki.
Pant suffers another injury scare
Pant, who was batting in his usual aggressive style, walked in early after KL Rahul’s dismissal and began his innings confidently, smashing two boundaries and a six. However, his stay at the crease turned into a struggle after he was struck multiple times by short deliveries from Moreki. Pant was seen in pain and immediately took off his gloves, but decided to continue his batting after receiving treatment.
Moreki hit him again a few deliveries later on the abdomen, which saw the physio visit him for the third time. Pant eventually walked off retired hurt after trying for some time to carry on. After nightwatchman Kuldeep Yadav was dismissed, Harsh Dubey came to bat and there was no sign of Pant. This has raised concerns about his fitness ahead of the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa.
There’s no update from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) yet on Pant’s latest injury. The match is being played at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. Dubey is currently batting with Pant’s potential replacement Dhruv Jurel. If Pant fails to recover in time for the South Africa Tests, Jurel will keep the wickets in his place.
Pant, who fractured his foot during the England tour earlier this year, was included in India’s main Test squad for the South Africa series. With the first Test scheduled to take place in Kolkata from November 14 to 18, the team management will be anxiously waiting for an update on his injury.
