Rinku Singh will join Team India in Kolkata on Saturday, just a day after the demise of his father, Khanchandra Singh, who died due to cancer at a hospital in Greater Noida. Khanchandra Singh, who was suffering from a fourth-stage liver cancer breathed his last at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital in Greater Noida on Friday (27 February).

Khanchandra Singh was on a ventilator as the cancerous cells had spread to multiple organs in his body. Rinku had taken a brief break before India’s match against Zimbabwe in Chennai to see his father. Rinku left the Indian cricket team once again on Friday for Aligarh to conduct the last rites of his father.

Rinku to rejoin Team India in Kolkata

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia, however, has confirmed that he will return to the camp on 28 February, ahead of the crucial Super 8 match against West Indies.

“Rinku Singh will join the team tomorrow in Kolkata,” BCCI secretary Saikia told news agency IANS.

India’s match against the West Indies in the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2026 is a must-win contest for both sides. The winner of the match will qualify for the semi-finals. South Africa is the only team so far to qualify from Group 1 of Super 8.

The Proteas booked their tickets to the semi-finals by beating West Indies and India.

Meanwhile, Pakistan face Sri Lanka in a must-win match today in Pallekele. Interstingly even a win may not be enough as New Zealand have a superior net run rate. Pakistan has to win by a big margin. They will need to beat Sri Lanka by around 65 runs or complete the chase inside 13 overs to have any chance of leapfrogging New Zealand.

England have already qualified from the semi-finals from the Group 2 of the Super 8.
