Opening batter Prithvi Shaw has sought a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the Mumbai Cricket Association in order to sever ties with them and represent another state. The development comes months after he was dropped by the Mumbai selection committee due to poor fitness.

“He has sought NoC from us and we will take decision on it soon,” an MCA source was quoted by the Indian Express as saying.

Fitness issues to blame for Shaw’s exit from Mumbai?

Mumbai, which had won its 42nd Ranji Trophy title in March last year, had informed Shaw that that his body contains 35 percent fat, and he needs rigorous exercise to make his way back to the squad.

The 25-year-old had played the first two matches of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season against Baroda and Maharashtra, scoring 59 runs at an average just under 20 before getting dropped.

“At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer. In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new State Association in the upcoming domestic season.

“Please be assured that this decision has been made after careful consideration, and with utmost respect for the MCA. I remain ever grateful to the association for the guidance and platform provided over the years," read Shaw’s mail to the MCA.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, also an opening batter, had also parted ways with Mumbai last month and was set to represent Goa after obtaining an NOC from MCA. The 23-year-old, however, made a U-turn shortly after and requested to remain part of the association for the 2025-26 domestic season.
