Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 Participation LIVE Updates: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to announce the final decision on boycotting the T20 World Cup 2026 today (30 January, Friday). Pakistan had threatened to boycott the tournament after the International Cricket Council (ICC) removed Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup.
While Bangladesh were removed and replaced by Scotland after refusing to play in India, PCB has accused ICC of politics, and being an extension of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Will Pakistan really boycott T20 World Cup?
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last Monday, after which he said the final decision could be announced on Friday (30 January) or Monday (2 February).
Several former Pakistan cricketere including Rashid Latif, have urged PCB to boycott the tournament. Some have also asked Pakistan to just boycott the India match. But it is not going to be an easy decision. PCB has already signed a participation agreement and boycotting the World Cup would allow ICC to punish them.
Multiple reports have suggested that Pakistan could lose their annual revenue from ICC, which would be over Rs 300 crore, leading to unrepairable damage to the sport in the country.
A latest report in the news agency PTI, however, has exposed Pakistan’s empty threats. A PCB insider has revealed that Pakistan have alrady booked tickets to Colombo for the World Cup, and that there are no plans to boycott the tournament.
“The PCB has already made travel arrangements for the World Cup squad to depart early morning on February 2 for Colombo,” a PCB source said.
He also shared that Naqvi, during his meeting with PM Sharif, had only spoken about trying to maintain a good relationship with ICC, which means a boycott may not happen.
“When PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, he clearly conveyed that all options under consideration must ensure a stable and prosperous future for Pakistan cricket and preserve good relations with the ICC and member boards,” an insider told PTI.
Is there time for a final twist? We will have to wait till the final announcement.
