Pakistan T20 World Cup Participation LIVE Updates: Pakistan likely to delay the decision further

Pakistan are likely to delay announcing a final call on their participation in the T20 World Cup 2026, even though reports suggest the decision has already been made. Reports indicate that a boycott of the tournament in support of Bangladesh is highly unlikely. There were also reports that Pakistan could forfeit their high-profile match against India, but that scenario also appears improbable given the massive financial importance of the fixture. For now, Pakistan seem set to travel to Sri Lanka for the tournament, with the delay in decision-making being seen as a move to keep the issue alive.

Former India player mocks Pakistan PM amid PCB's threat to boycott T20 World Cup 2026

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif found himself at the centre of an online mockery after praising Pakistan’s win over Australia in the first T20I and applauding the PCB leadership for its role in strengthening the team. Sharif’s post on X did not go down well with former India opener Aakash Chopra, who offered a hilarious response.

With due respect…it’s a bilateral T20i against Australia’s B team. Many main players have given it a miss. And a 20-run win in a 170 run game can’t possibly qualify as ‘electrifying’ 🫣 https://t.co/allr7esAbr

Pakistan T20 World Cup Participation LIVE Updates: Where will Pakistan play their games if they don't boycott?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has threatened to boycott the 2026 T20 World Cup in support of Bangladesh, but it is highly unlikely to happen. If Pakistan does not boycott, they will play all their scheduled matches, including the high-profile clash against India, in Sri Lanka. Saqlain Mushtaq says politics should be eradicated amid ongoing tensions over Bangladesh's exclusion from World Cup

“I believe politics should be eradicated as it’s detrimental to humanity. Politics is our enemy, and it’s not just harming cricket, but humanity as a whole. It’s a loss for the sport and its players. Cricket is meant to unite nations, not drive them apart. Cricket is about entertainment, not a battlefield or war. I prefer not to comment on Bangladesh’s decision not to play in India, as I’ve made it clear and told you already that I don’t believe in politics,” Saqlain Mushtaq told news agency ANI.

Highly unlikely Pakistan will boycott T20 World Cup 2026

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has threatened to boycott the 2026 T20 World Cup in support of Bangladesh. The final decision is expected to be taken by the Pakistani government by February 2, as confirmed earlier this week by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. However, it is highly unlikely that Pakistan will withdraw from the tournament, as the team has already begun preparations for the marquee event and has announced a squad that will travel to Sri Lanka. Another option reportedly being considered is forfeiting their match against India. That scenario also appears unlikely, given the massive viewership and revenue the fixture generates, as well as its importance to the International Cricket Council (ICC). Pakistan themselves benefit hugely from the match. The PCB has issued similar threats in the past, which often do not translate into anything.

Pakistan T20 World Cup Participation LIVE Updates: Will PCB and Naqvi stop Pakistan from playing against India?

But a Pakistan source has told news agency PTI that PCB has no plans to boycott the T20 World Cup.

“The Indian government has refused to send its team to Pakistan, but there is no restriction on India playing Pakistan in ICC events or Asia Cup-level tournaments at neutral venues,” the source said.

“So on what grounds can Pakistan justify boycotting the match against India when its government has consistently maintained that politics should not be mixed with sport?” he added.

Will Pakistan boycott the T20 World Cup 2026?

Pakistan had threatened to boycott the T20 World Cup 2026 after the ICC removed Bangladesh from the tournament. Bangladesh was removed for refusing to play in India. But will Pakistan really boycott the World Cup? The final decision could come today.

Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 Participation LIVE Updates: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to announce the final decision on boycotting the T20 World Cup 2026 today (30 January, Friday). Pakistan had threatened to boycott the tournament after the International Cricket Council (ICC) removed Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup.

While Bangladesh were removed and replaced by Scotland after refusing to play in India, PCB has accused ICC of politics, and being an extension of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Will Pakistan really boycott T20 World Cup?

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last Monday, after which he said the final decision could be announced on Friday (30 January) or Monday (2 February).

Several former Pakistan cricketere including Rashid Latif, have urged PCB to boycott the tournament. Some have also asked Pakistan to just boycott the India match. But it is not going to be an easy decision. PCB has already signed a participation agreement and boycotting the World Cup would allow ICC to punish them.

Multiple reports have suggested that Pakistan could lose their annual revenue from ICC, which would be over Rs 300 crore, leading to unrepairable damage to the sport in the country.

A latest report in the news agency PTI, however, has exposed Pakistan’s empty threats. A PCB insider has revealed that Pakistan have alrady booked tickets to Colombo for the World Cup, and that there are no plans to boycott the tournament.

“The PCB has already made travel arrangements for the World Cup squad to depart early morning on February 2 for Colombo,” a PCB source said.

He also shared that Naqvi, during his meeting with PM Sharif, had only spoken about trying to maintain a good relationship with ICC, which means a boycott may not happen.

“When PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, he clearly conveyed that all options under consideration must ensure a stable and prosperous future for Pakistan cricket and preserve good relations with the ICC and member boards,” an insider told PTI.

Is there time for a final twist? We will have to wait till the final announcement.
