Pakistan’s young batter Saim Ayub, who was tipped by former all-rounder Tanvir Ahmed to hit India’s ace apacer Jasprit Bumrah for six sixes in the 2025 Asia Cup, had a shocking start to his campaign. In Pakistan’s opening game against Oman on Friday, September 12, Saim was dismissed for a golden duck.
Oman’s Shah Faisal trapped Saim LBW in the very first over when the 23-year-old tried to play an attacking shot. Saim missed the shot as the ball kept low and hit his pad. The umpire gave him out after a review, confirming there was no edge. Pakistan were reduced to 4/1 early, giving Oman a perfect start.
This comes ahead of Pakistan’s group stage match against India on September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium. India have started the tournament strongly with a nine-wicket win over hosts UAE, chasing down 57 runs in just 4.3 overs. India are favourites to win the Asia Cup, coming into the tournament as world champions.
