Mohsin Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asia Cricket Council (ACC) chairman, has slammed the reports in Indian media that he has apologised to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy fiasco. The Pakistani Interior Minister has reiterated that if India want the Asia Cup trophy, they can come to the ACC office and collect it from him.

As we reported earlier, Naqvi and BCCI officials, including vice-president Rajeev Shukla and former treasurer Ashish Shelar, were engaged in a verbal battle during the ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, which was held online. While BCCI officials constantly questioned Naqvi about his embarrassing act of running away with the Asia Cup trophy after Team India refused to receive the silverware from him following the five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the final in Dubai on Sunday, Naqvi constantly tried to divert the conversation towards the election of a new vice-president.

Things got so heated that Shelar once even logged out midway during the meeting due to a lack of clarity on when the Asia Cup would be handed over to India, before rejoining the meeting. The BCCI has asked Naqvi to drop the trophy at the ACC office in Dubai, from where the Indian board would collect it, while the PCB chief is in no mood to give it away.

Naqvi blasts Indian media for ‘misleading’ its people

Some media reports in India have also stated that Naqvi apologised to the BCCI during the meeting for his act. However, the Pakistani politician has refuted these reports. He claimed that he had done nothing wrong.

“Let me make it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologised to the BCCI nor will I ever do so,” Naqvi said in a tweet as per Pakistan newspaper Dawn.

Naqvi’s tweets are unavailable in India due to the ban imposed since the Pahalgam terror attack.

Terming the media reports as “fabricated nonsense” and “cheap propaganda,” Naqvi said that the Indian media is trying to mislead its own people.

He added that the Indian team can collect the trophy by meeting him in the ACC office. “As ACC chairman, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day and I am still ready now,” he said. “If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me.”
