Karun Nair took a dig at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors as the Indian team suffered yet another batting collapse in a Test match on Monday. After failing to chase 124 in the Kolkata Test against South Africa, India lost seven wickets in the space of 47 runs on Day 3 of the second Test at Guwahati in reply to South Africa’s first innings total of 489.

On a relatively easier pitch in Guwahati that has also been labelled as “road” by Kuldeep Yadav, India went from 65/0 to 122/7 before a 72-run partnership between Washington Sundar and the spinner spared India’s blushes.
Karun Nair takes a dig at BCCI selectors
As experts and fans struggled to wrap their heads around a batting collapse on a flat track, Nair sent a reminder of what the team is missing – possibly a batter who grinds it out.
“Some conditions carry a feel you know by heart – and the silence of not being out there adds its own sting,” Nair wrote on his X handle.
Nair’s post was also shared by R Ashwin.

Nair, who made 205 runs in eight innings in England, was dropped from the Test squad after the away tour. While he made only one fifty on the tour, it came in the fifth Test at the Oval, which India won to draw the series 2-2.
Ever since being dropped, Nair has made over 600 runs at an average of over 100 in five Ranji Trophy matches for Karnataka. Yet, the 33-year-old did not find a place in the Test squad for the South Africa series as India played Sundar at No 3 in the first Test at Kolkata.
