England wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings has refused to compare the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with the Indian Premier League (IPL), stating that the Indian T20 league is miles ahead of all other franchise leagues. Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) player, Billings is currently playing for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 2025.
Billings, who last played in IPL in 2022, was asked to compare the two leagues during a press conference in PSL.
Billings says IPL is the ‘premier’ T20 competition in world
The 33-year-old England cricketer laughed off the comparison and said that every franchise T20 league in the world including England’s The Hundred is “just behind” the IPL.
“You want me to say something silly? It’s hard to look past the IPL as the premier competition in the world, it’s very obvious, every other competition is just behind,” Billings said. “You know in England we are trying to do the same like PSL as the second-best competition in the world, Big Bash too trying to do the same.”
The conversation around IPL in PSL conferences is nothing new. Recently IPL legend David Warner, who went unsold in the 2025 mega auction and is playing for Karachi Kings as captain, was asked about facing criticism from Indian fans for turning out in PSL.
Warner, however, was surprised with the question . “This is the first I’ve heard of it. From my perspective, I want to play cricket. There’s an opportunity to come to PSL. My international calendar didn’t allow me to come to PSL due to the timings. Now, I want to compete, captain the Karachi Kings, and hopefully we are able to win the trophy,” Warner was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, Lahore are second in the PSL 2025 points table with two wins from three matches while Karachi are fourth in the six-team standings after losing one out of two games.
