Australian cricket star David Warner found himself at the centre of controversy during his first press conference as Karachi Kings captain ahead of their opening Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 clash against Multan Sultans. Warner was taken aback by a Pakistani reporter’s claim about “Indian trolling.”

Warner, who joined the PSL after going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, was questioned by a Pakistani journalist about supposed backlash from Indian fans. The reporter claimed that many Indians had trolled Warner for opting to play in the PSL, and asked for his response to the “hate” being spread online.

The former Australian opener, visibly surprised, clarified that this was the first time he had heard of such criticism.

“This is the first I’ve heard of it. From my perspective, I want to play cricket. There’s an opportunity to come to PSL. My international calendar didn’t allow me to come to PSL due to the timings. Now, I want to compete, captain the Karachi Kings, and hopefully we are able to win the trophy,” Warner was quoted as saying.

A new chapter in David Warner’s career

Warner’s move to the PSL comes after a long and illustrious stint in the IPL, where he remains the most successful overseas batter in tournament history with 6,565 runs in 184 innings. He has played for Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Warner famously led SRH to their maiden title in 2016.

In IPL 2023, Warner captained Delhi Capitals in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who was recovering from a serious car accident. The franchise released Warner ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

Karachi Kings defeated Multan Sultans in their opening game of PSL 10 by 4 wickets. James Vince scored 101 off 43 balls to help the side chase down a mammoth target of 235. He received help from Khushdil Shah, who smashed 60 off 37 balls.

Earlier, Multan posted an intimidating total of 234/3 thanks to Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 105 off 63 balls and a blazing 44 not-out off 17 from Michael Bracewell.
