  • Matches as Captain: 45

  • Wins: 26

  • Losses: 19

  • Win Percentage: 57.77%

  • Best Finish: Winner (2022 with GT)

Hardik Pandya will once again lead Mumbai Indians after a controversial switch from Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2024 season. He captained GT to an IPL title in 2022 and a runner-up finish in 2023 but struggled in his first season as MI skipper last year.

Chennai Super Kings – Ruturaj Gaikwad

  • Matches as Captain: 14

  • Wins: 7

  • Losses: 7

  • Win Percentage: 50%

  • Best Finish: League Stage (2024)

With MS Dhoni stepping away from the captaincy, Ruturaj Gaikwad was named the skipper for CSK in IPL 2024. The young opener led CSK brilliantly with his side missing out on a playoff berth by a whisker.

Kolkata Knight Riders – Ajinkya Rahane

  • Matches as Captain: 25

  • Wins: 9

  • Losses: 16

  • Win Percentage: 36%

  • Best Finish: Playoffs (2018 with RR)

KKR’s decision to hand over the leadership to Ajinkya Rahane is a surprising one. While he has captaincy experience with Rajasthan Royals in the past, he has yet to taste much success as an IPL skipper. KKR will enter IPL 2025 as defending champions and Rahane will have a big task on his hands.

Delhi Capitals – Axar Patel

  • Matches as Captain: 0

  • Wins: 0

  • Losses: 0

  • Win Percentage: N/A

  • Best Finish: N/A

Axar Patel takes over the captaincy of Delhi Capitals for the first time after the departure of Rishabh Pant to Lucknow Super Giants. This will be his first stint leading an IPL side. He was the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals last season and captained the side in a one-off match against RCB, which they lost.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru – Rajat Patidar

  • Matches as Captain: 0

  • Wins: 0

  • Losses: 0

  • Win Percentage: N/A

  • Best Finish: N/A

  • Wins: 37

  • Losses: 29

  • Win Percentage: 53.62%

  • Best Finish: Winner (2024 with KKR)

Shreyas Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title, now takes charge of Punjab Kings. With his previous captaincy success, he will aim to change PBKS’s fortunes with Ricky Ponting by his side as head coach.

Rajasthan Royals – Sanju Samson

  • Matches as Captain: 57

  • Wins: 30

  • Losses: 27

  • Win Percentage: 52.63%
