Cricket Australia (CA) announced on Tuesday that it is willing to help its players decide whether to return to India for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The IPL 2025, which was suspended on 9 May, is set to resume on Saturday, 17 May , after a ceasefire agreement was reached between India and Pakistan.
As a result of the suspension, the majority of Australian players, including stars like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, returned to Australia over the last weekend, including the Aussie coaching staff. They will now be required to return to India for the remaining IPL 2025 matches.
Australian cricketers unsure about returning to India
At least 12 matches in the league phase and the four playoffs are still to be completed in IPL 2025, however, it has been reported that some of them are uncomfortable about returning to India while some have an eye of the upcoming World Test Championship final against South Africa, which starts on 11 June at the at Lord’s. The IPL 2025 final is scheduled for 3 June.
CA said it will support players in making their decisions and they are also in touch with the Australian government over the security arrangements for the players.
“Cricket Australia will support players in their individual decisions whether to return to India or not,” CA said in a statement.
“Team management will work through preparation implications for the World Test Championship final for those players who choose to play in the remaining IPL matches.
“We are maintaining communication with the Australian Government and BCCI around security arrangements and safety.”
Several key Australian players involved — such as Cummins, Starc Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head — are central to Australia’s World Test Championship plans.
Hazlewood, who is recovering from a shoulder injury, is expected to be fit in time. Others like Mitch Marsh and Josh Inglis are still in the mix as their IPL teams chase a playoff spot.
