India captain Suryakumar Yadav has revealed that the players faced constant abuse from the Pakistan team during the Asia Cup 2025, which ended with a five-wicket win for the Men In Blue in the final in Dubai on Sunday. India’s ’no-handshake’ policy against Pakistan in a tournament being played only a few months after the Pahalgam terror attack rattled Pakistan, who were guilty of multiple antics.
From complaining to ICC about match referee Andy Pycroft, cancelling pre-match press conferences and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi running away with the trophy, Pakistan crossed all limits in the tournament. It was the same on the field where players like Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan were guilty of making provocative gestures.
Suryakumar reveals facing abuse from Pakistan players
Now, Indian cricket team captain Suryakumar has finally opened up in the drama, claiming that Indian players face a lot of abuse from Pakistan players during their three wins over the arch-rivals.
“In the game, everything is up and down, but in all this, you should not cross the line,” Suryakumar told Sports Tak. “So many things players have told us that happened in the three games, I cannot share them, but a lot happened, which players were telling the coaching staff and me.
“I only told them that if we focus on cricket, it is a good occasion; if we win the match, there cannot be a bigger answer than that.”

In a separate interview with Revsportz, SKY added that India’s focus was also on playing cricket with dignity, even if the opponent did not share the same values.
“None of us at any point have shown any inappropriate gesture…. we wanted to play this game with dignity… follow the situation and the game, keeping emotions aside,” SKY told Revsportz.

Will India continue to boycott handshakes with Pakistan?
In an interview with The Indian Express, Suryakumar was asked if India would continue to boycott handshakes with Pakistan in future matches.
“I don’t know what will happen next. Dilli abhi bahut door hai. I don’t know what will happen with Pakistan in the next game. Anyway we only play in multi-nation tournaments but whatever happens at that time, we will see. For now, this is the moment which we want to enjoy it.”
Meanwhile, the Indian team has still not received the Asia Cup trophy and efforts are being made to bring it back to the country.
