The 2025 Asia Cup ended on a controversial note after the Indian team refused to accept the winner’s trophy as well as medals from PCB chairman and current ACC president Mohsin Naqvi, who remained adamant that only he would felicitate the Men in Blue following their five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the final.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not taken kindly to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s antics in the post-match presentation ceremony following India's five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the final of the 2025 Asia Cup.

India had expressed solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack as well as with the Indian armed forces for ‘Operation Sindoor’ by refusing to shake hands with Pakistani cricketers across their three meetings in the recently-concluded tournament.

And after winning the Asia Cup for the ninth time overall and the second time in the T20I format, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side refused to accept the winner's trophy as well as medals from PCB chief Naqvi, who also happens to be the country’s Interior Minister as well as Asian Cricket Council president.

Naqvi, who had courted controversy with his anti-India social media post last week, left the venue with the trophy in his possession after the presentation ceremony came to a premature end.

The Indian team thus conducted a trophy-less celebration at the centre after the officials and the Pakistani cricketers left the ground.

BCCI slams Mohsin Naqvi’s ‘childish and unacceptable’ behaviour

Not only has the BCCI labelled Naqvi’s behaviour during the presentation ceremony “childish and unacceptable”, they are also planning to launch a campaign to remove him as ACC president – a position that is rotated among the member boards every two years.

“Naqvi cannot take the trophy to his hotel. Now Naqvi’s days in the ACC are numbered, and he will soon be shown the door. The BCCI will launch a campaign to remove Naqvi. We will raise this issue seriously at the ICC meeting in November. Such a person should not be allowed a place in the top institutions of international cricket,” BCCI sources told Dainik Jagran.
