The Indian women’s cricket team’s home series against Bangladesh has reportedly been postponed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The original plan included three ODIs and as many T20Is in Kolkata and Cuttack as part of the ICC Future Tours Programme, but it appears to be shelved for now.

According to the news agency PTI, the series, which was supposed to be held next month, has been deferred, and the BCCI is planning to arrange something else during the same period. They reportedly didn’t get a nod for the series against Bangladesh, and growing political tension could be a reason.

“We will try to arrange an alternate series in December but details are still being worked out. As far as the series against Bangladesh is concerned, we didn’t get a go ahead for it,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying to PTI.

Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently living in India on political asylum, was on Monday sentenced to death over alleged crimes against humanity. The tensions between India and Bangladesh have hit an all-time high after the recent developments.

BCB receives a letter from BCCI

A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official told the same news agency that they received a letter from the BCCI regarding the cancellation of the series. “We (BCB) have received a letter from the BCCI regarding the cancellation of the series, and now we are waiting to hear new dates or details,” the official said.

The Indian women’s cricket team recently won their first-ever ODI World Cup title after defeating South Africa in the final. The series against Bangladesh would have been their first outing since becoming the world champions, but they will have to wait longer for wearing that Blue jersey again.

It may be recalled that the BCCI had deferred the men’s white-ball tour to Bangladesh in August this year to September 2026, following the unrest in that country that led to the toppling of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.
