They’ll have to call the shots, which means you might even want to declare behind. Then try and bowl out the opposition quickly in the second innings.

“You’ve got to take those chances. You can’t wait to bat and go past 489, that’ll take a long time. Might have to even declare 80, 90, 100 runs behind and see how it goes,” Shastri told Star Sports.

“It was a really special moment in front of this full house. I’m just glad that I could contribute to the team and really put some runs on the board in the first innings, which is always important,” Muthusamy said after stumps on Day 2.

“It (plan) was just to build partnerships and to really try and extend the innings and then score runs in between. I think Scholesy (Verreynne) did really well today and Marco was special. And the other guys chipped in as well, which was awesome,” he added.

“If India have to win from here then I think Yashasvi Jaiswal is a very important player,” former India opener Parthiv said.

“If you want to win the Test and then you’ll have to play with a good run rate and when Yashasvi Jaiswal plays well he makes big hundreds and also scores quickly,” Parthiv added.
