South Africa have won the toss and elected to bat first in the second Test match against India in Guwahati . This is the first time a Test match is being played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
The Proteas have made one change to their playing XI, with Senuran Muthusamy coming in while Corbin Bosch misses out.
India, led by Rishabh Pant, have announced two changes for the match. Sai Sudharsan has replaced the injured Shubman Gill, while Nitish Reddy is coming in for Axar Patel.
Meanwhile, Pant has become the fourth player to captain India in the past 12 months. He is also India’s 38th Test captain and was handed the responsibility after Gill missed out due to a neck injury.
Pant has also become the second wicketkeeper-batter to lead India in Test cricket after MS Dhoni, who captained from 2008 to 2014.
“Definitely a proud moment. As a cricketer, you always aspire to lead your country. And I’m thankful to the BCCI for giving me this opportunity. Didn’t think about it, but at the same time, you want to grab it with both hands and do the best for the team,” Pant said at the toss.
